At Christmas, All Roads Lead To The Family Feast
One of the most important aspects of Christmas all over the world is to spend time with family and friends, no matter how the festivities are carried out.
Christmas Day, for many busy families, is the one day of the year when everyone is able to gather in one room at the same time and feast.
Christmas is that time of the year where it is perfectly acceptable to eat and drink as much as you see fit. That theory even stood during the reign of the House of Stuart, probably in a bigger sense than it does today.
King Charles I and his family spent several months celebrating Christmas.
Much of the food that the Stuarts ate at Christmas time, we still eat today. Although their most impressive meat dish was the boar’s head with an apple or lemon in its mouth and not the traditional turkey we enjoy today.
The boar’s head was crowned with holly, ivy and rosemary before being carried to the dinner table.
One of the most potent sources of nostalgia and memory about Christmas is food, and the distinctive dishes and recipes that instantly conjure up the season.
Christmas food is set about with tradition, ritual and glamour.
Many people love the traditional Christmas menu and regard it as an annual treat (are you one?).
